Job DescriptionThe Supervisor of Custodial Services occupies a position under the Director of Maintenance or other Physical Plant Supervisor. The Supervisor of Custodial Services is responsible for the overall cleanliness of Instructional and Administrative buildings on campus, conducting periodic inspections of buildings for proper cleanliness, minor maintenance and repairs. The Supervisor coordinates with custodial foremen and with building maintenance supervisors for major maintenance repairs on electrical, plumbing, air conditioning and carpentry.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the coordination and workload scheduling for custodial services and other departments. Supervises a team of ten or more individuals at a campus. Manages department budget resources.
  • Works directly with Chief of Public Safety on all legal matters relating to custodial.
  • Directly responsible for assigning and security of all custodial areas keys.
  • Works with Safety Officer to maintain safety rules within the department.
  • Fills out proper forms for accident reports for Safety Office.
  • Develops in-house standards of operation for all custodial tasks.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and is responsible for yearly inventory.
  • Makes out proper forms for lost or stolen equipment, as well as loaned equipment.
  • Supervisor is directly responsible for requisition of capital equipment and supplies and maintains proper records for inventory.
  • Supervisor is responsible for repair and ongoing maintenance of all equipment.
  • Supervisor is responsible for maintaining all custodial leave forms and fills out custodial time sheets.
  • Supervisor is responsible for making out all custodial evaluations.
  • Supervisor is responsible for all work orders for maintenance and upkeep on custodial vehicles.
  • Supervisor is in charge of coordinating custodial efforts when normal custodial schedule is interrupted by various circumstances, i.e. cleaning out renovated or restored areas, emergency situations, or plumbing problems.
  • Supervisor works with members of staff and faculty to help solve custodial related problems
  • Directly responsible for all custodial training programs and safety programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Five years of related custodial experience with at least two years as Custodial Foreman.
  • Skill in the safe use of janitorial-type equipment.
  • Ability to conduct on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of custodial methods, buildings surface materials, and normal building equipment such as plumbing fixtures, environmental control and electrical fixtures.
  • This job descriptions covers a position in which the percentage of time spent on the essential functions will vary based on the workload and will ultimately be determined by the supervisor.
  • Restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs), some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Unpleasant Exposure Minor Hazard: Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors. Occasional
  • exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity is limited.
